Salesforce.com is making a killing with its cloud-based CRM solutions,

The company’s applications in the CRM arena consist of two main products – Sales Cloud 2 and Service Cloud 2. It has gained some 72500 customers globally since Salesforce was set up in 1999. Sales Cloud 2 enable sales departments to take initiatives like building rich customer databases, managing and analysing outcomes of marketing campaigns, updating contact information and bringing attention to poor quality records, dashboards that keep a tab on performance indicators and provide actionable intelligence, access to all presentations and data sheets and automating sales processes. Service Cloud offers utilities like having all possible customer information and past records at the agent’s disposal, enabling self service, faster & customizable searches for the right solution, dashboards on customer performance, et al. Another very exciting application (in the beta stage) is the Salesforce Chatter, akin to being a company’s private Facebook, through which salespeople can stay in constant touch and exchange information in real time.

Salesforce.com has been seeing impressive growth globally, and was made a part of S&P 500 in 2008 when Freddie Mac and Fanny Mae dropped out. It posted revenues of $1.3 billion for FY 2009-10 (growth of 21% yoy). Revenues from Asia Pacific grew the fastest by 36.32% yoy to reach $149.39 million. The response has been phenomenal in India, where the company grew its customer base by 42% in FY 2010. They have targeted a lot of small small businesses looking for low cost and easily deployable CRM systems. The expected boom in 3G and broadband makes India even more potentially lucrative.

Then again, there is that adage of having too much of a good thing. Salesforce could face what could be a protracted litigation against software giant Microsoft, which has also launched its own Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online software. The latter complains that Salesforce.com infringes 9 of Microsoft’s patents in software menus, GUIs, toolbars and also how the company takes data from remote computers. Actually, competition between the two has been intensifying. The not-so-politically-correct Steve Ballmer even promised to give Salesforce.com “a very effective run for is money”. Having a competitor like Microsoft means you are in the big league. But Microsoft’s past record on how it treats competitors is legendary; something that Salesforce.com would do well to stay warned about!

THEME-BASED REALTY! DOES IT EVEN WORK?

For most part of the year gone by, realtors harped over the affordable housing strategy to lure consumers. But builders now are now trying to lure buyers through theme-based dreams! Do they even stand a chance?

But what about the illiquidity of it all? “The money that senior citizens, for example, will invest in buying property, can be recovered to some extent by taking reverse mortgage loans,” explains Mittal of Realty Stocks.

Female buyers on the other hand enjoy lower stamp duty rates and higher tax rebate as compared to male buyers. Emergence of career-oriented women with a desire to secure their future has also led to an increase in women buying houses, and banks too are not too worried about doling out loans to females as compared to menfolk. As a tactic to lure female buyers and boost sales over a short period, Meriton Group, for example, even decided to share registration charges (if the purchase of the flat was made before December 31, 2009).

Well, star-studded residential complexes like the Shahrukh Khan Boulevard in Dubai may still be a distant dream in India, but it’s now evident that one cannot summarily reject this new concept – and it might even work!

IIPM Workshop on careers in media - IIPM Lucknow

IIPM Lucknow in association with Young Force had the privilege of hosting Mr, Vinay Pratap Singh the Cluster Head (UP) of Radio Mirchi on campus. He talked about the careers in Media, various profiles available for fresh management graduates. He emphasized on the skill set required in media and explained this with the role of professionals in Radio Mirchi

On the later part the workshop analyzed the thought process behind the most creative advertisements and included the mental math that most advertisers used. Mr. Singh highlighted that most good advertisements tell a story and the ads which become memorable are the ones with a simple and engaging truth in them. “Every ad is an opportunity for the consumer to marry the brand”

With the marketing bunch in the audience aware of the strong nexus that marketers and advertisers have, questions on media and advertising flowed freely.

Having got a taste of the media sector from a person of Mr. Singh’s stature the students were left longing for more. The session ended with great applause and appreciation for Mr. Singh, who was very happy that students were taking keen interest in Media as a career, quite against the traditional norm. The session definitely gave the students an in-depth insight on a new field.

Yes, they had to convince me regarding the same. Finally, we came out with a green label and a green cap. My marketing team taught me how the colour green could be used to promote our purity factor. I learned a lot from my team of youngsters. This was definitely a memorable marketing moment for me.
